Dear Readers,

Back in the early 2000s there were a few blogs I was addicted to.  I had a reading ritual.  I would arrive at the office earlier than everyone to wake the place up.  After getting the coffee going, setting up the waiting room, and preparing for client intake, I would still have a few minutes to myself before the employees started trickling in.  I would settle into my chair, steaming mug in hand, fire up my computer and hope that there were new posts to read.

The blogs I read weren’t written by celebrities.  The authors weren’t “influencers”, at least not at that point.  They were people living in a different part of the country than me, leading different lives than me, with a different perspective than me.  Their articles felt rich and homespun.  There was a relatively new and easy way to self publish that also included a level of freedom and there was a buzz of excitement around the blogging platform.  Eventually those people I enjoyed reading got popular.  There were more sponsored posts and pictures and less good quality writing.

I’d like to contribute toward filling that void.  An ordinary person, from an ordinary part of the world, with an ordinary job who occasionally writes meaningful pieces about people encountered, places visited and thoughts had.  I hope you enjoy this space, which is really a love letter to the wonderful, anything but ordinary, world around us.

Sincerely,

The Occasional Writer
